Ryan Leary

Ryan Leary is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth & Environmental Science at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. His research focuses on global tectonics, sedimentary basin evolution, terrestrial paleoclimate records, and petroleum geology, with particular interest in Central Asian and western US tectonics.

Dr. Leary investigates interactions between orogenic belts and sedimentary basins, clastic depositional systems, and paleoclimate proxies. His work combines field studies with advanced geochronological and sedimentological analytical techniques to reconstruct tectonic histories and sedimentary processes.

Recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on detrital thermochronology and zircon geochronology applied to basin evolution, with geographic emphasis on Mongolian and western North American terrains. His research integrates quantitative stratigraphy, provenance analysis, and tectonic modeling to understand continental-scale geological processes.
