Ryan Doody is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Political Economy at Brown University, affiliated with the Center for Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. He holds the Mark L. Shapiro and Judy C. Lewent endowed position.
Education: PhD in Philosophy from MIT (2016), BS from SUNY Brockport (2008). His research focuses on rationality, value theory, decision theory, and the intersections of philosophy with political economy. He explores topics like incommensurability, risk assessment in public policy, and the foundations of ethical decision-making.
Teaching includes courses such as Choice, Commerce, and Conflict: An Introduction to PPE, Puzzles of Rationality, and graduate seminars. He co-hosts the PPE in a Time of Pandemic webseries, addressing ethical challenges in crises.
Doody’s work bridges formal epistemology, moral philosophy, and economic theory. He has held prior positions at institutions including the University of San Diego and Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Outside academia, he is known for his eclectic interests in music, comedy, and driving a pink school bus.
