Ryan C. Platte is a Teaching Professor of Classics and Director of the Ancient Greek Program at Northwestern University. He holds a PhD from the University of Washington. His research focuses on the history of language and poetic technique in Greek literature, particularly the Homeric corpus, employing a linguistic approach and comparative Indo-European poetics. He has authored Equine Poetics, exploring Indo-European influences on Homer's portrayal of horses and horsemanship, and published on cinematic adaptations of Homeric epics.
Platte's academic interests span Greek lyric poetry, epic traditions, and the intersection of classical texts with modern media. He is actively involved in teaching and promoting the Ancient Greek language through the university’s program. His work bridges classical philology with broader comparative and interdisciplinary methodologies.
