Prof. Ruud Bank is a Professor at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Groningen (UMCG), affiliated with the Groningen Kidney Center (GKC). His research focuses on tissue engineering, fibrosis mechanisms, and biomaterial applications in wound repair. He has extensive expertise in collagen biology, connective tissue diseases, and cell-matrix interactions.
- Additional roles: Board member of W.J. Kolff Stichting, Secretary of Rotary Hoogezand-Sappemeer, Treasurer of International Society of Matrix Biology (ISMB), Director of Ponteripa, and CSO at CollaneX Therapeutics.
His work addresses fibrosis modulation in biomaterials, anti-fibrotic drug screening, and extracellular matrix dynamics. Recent studies explore high-throughput platforms for biomaterial evaluation and the role of matrix metalloproteinases in intestinal fibrosis.
Bank has supervised 16 students and contributed to 86 research outputs, emphasizing translational research in regenerative medicine and fibrotic disorders. His lab (Groningen Kidney Center) collaborates internationally on biomaterials and fibrosis projects.
