Ruti Teitel is an Adjunct Professor at New York University and holds the Ernst C. Stiefel Professor of Comparative Law title at New York Law School. She is also a Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics. Her expertise spans international and comparative law, with a focus on transitional justice and political transitions. Teitel has authored seminal works such as Transitional Justice (Oxford University Press, 2000), Humanity’s Law (2012), and Globalizing Transitional Justice (2014), which redefine paradigms in international affairs and legal evolution.
Her research interests include the intersection of law and political change, particularly in post-conflict societies. She explores how legal frameworks adapt to transitions from authoritarianism or conflict, emphasizing human rights and institutional reforms. Her work bridges theory and practice, influencing global policy discussions on justice and governance.
Teitel serves on multiple prominent committees and boards, including the American Society of International Law's Interest Group on Transitional Justice, the International Studies Association Human Rights Section, and the ILA International Human Rights Committee. She is a Life Member of the Council on Foreign Relations and contributes to the London Review of International Law as a Board member.
Her academic engagements include teaching courses like Transitional Justice (INTRL-GA 1762) and participating in initiatives such as the NYU Straus Institute’s Fellowship (2012-2013). Her work reflects a commitment to advancing interdisciplinary dialogue on law, justice, and global governance.
