Dr Ruth Rogers serves as Reader in Social Justice and Inclusion at Canterbury Christ Church University's Department of Academic Education and Linguistics within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Education. She currently holds the position of Course Director for the Doctorate of Education (EdD) and acts as UCU representative for her faculty.
Her research investigates marginalized youth communities with emphasis on educational inequality, social exclusion, and transitions of looked-after children into care-leaver status. She examines how widening participation agendas impact disadvantaged youth and analyzes official discourses framing unemployment, anti-social behavior, and unequal higher education access through governance and textual analysis methodologies.
With 20 years of research experience, Dr Rogers has secured over £1.7 million in funding as principal investigator. She is an experienced doctoral supervisor and examiner who previously directed the PhD in Education (2017-2021) and PhD in Childhood, Youth and Parenthood (2009-2021). Her leadership includes former directorship of the Research Centre for Children, Families and Communities.
