Ruth Meyers serves as Senior Research Scholar and Core Doctoral Faculty at the Graduate Theological Union's Church Divinity School of the Pacific (CDSP) since 2009, specializing in liturgical theology's role in shaping faith communities through worship practices.
Her academic credentials include:
- PhD in Liturgical Studies, University of Notre Dame (1992)
- MA, University of Notre Dame (1989)
- MDiv, Seabury-Western Theological Seminary (1985)
Dr. Meyers' research examines liturgical inculturation across diverse contexts, with foundational work on 1979 Book of Common Prayer baptismal rites and current studies of racially integrated Episcopal congregations. She explores how worship forms communal identity through Christian initiation, marriage theology, and liturgical year practices within Anglican traditions.
Her publication trajectory reveals sustained focus on liturgical texts and rites of passage, evolving from historical analysis of prayer books to contemporary applications in multicultural worship settings. Key themes include language's theological impact in communal prayer and marriage/funeral rites as transformative rituals.
As Core Doctoral Faculty, she mentors GTU doctoral candidates while contributing to church-wide initiatives through leadership roles including Episcopal Church Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music Chair (2010-2015) and Task Force on Marriage Study member (2016-2018).
