Ruth Hodges is the Dean of the Miller F. Whittaker Library & Information Services at South Carolina State University, overseeing organizational development and operational procedures. She holds a Ph.D. in Information Studies (2006) from Florida State University, an M.L.S. (1980) and M.S. in Biology (1979) from Atlanta University, and a B.S. in Biology (1976) from South Carolina State University.

Her research focuses on digital information services, open educational resources, and information literacy. She has led initiatives to modernize academic libraries, including implementing a state-wide shared library services platform and enhancing technological infrastructure.

Key projects include collaborative grants on OER and humanities special collections, alongside publications analyzing digital reference user experiences and biographical entries in notable women/men documentation.
