Dr. Ruth Gyereh is a Lecturer in Biomedical Science within the School of Applied Sciences at London South Bank University (LSBU). Her academic and research work focuses on blood cancers, particularly leukaemia, with an emphasis on developing novel bioactive peptides as targeted therapies. She brings over eight years of clinical laboratory experience as an HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist and is a Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS).

Dr. Gyereh's research centers on finding alternative treatments for blood cancers by developing therapies that specifically target cancer cells while minimizing harm to healthy cells. Her key project involves the novel bioactive peptide QUB-2392, which demonstrates anti-leukemic properties through inducing apoptosis and modulating the immune response. She also investigates combination therapies with conventional chemotherapy to enhance efficacy and reduce side effects, and explores blood transfusion impacts on cancer progression.
Her recent publication on QUB-2392's activity in leukaemia cell lines via proteomics and gene profiling exemplifies her work at the intersection of cancer biology, haematology, and pharmacology. This research trend highlights her commitment to translational science, aiming to advance novel therapies from the laboratory to clinical application.

Dr. Gyereh actively mentors students, having supervised 3 undergraduate research projects to completion and currently guiding 17 students (12 Level 5 and 5 Level 6) in blood cancer research. She is accepting PhD students for projects on haematology, blood transfusion, and cancer biology. In terms of funding, she is awaiting a decision on a £30,000 pilot grant from Blood Cancer UK and plans to apply for a Wellcome Trust early career grant (up to £400,000). Additionally, she secured £5,000 from the School of Applied Sciences for the "Empowering the Black Biomedical Scientists of Tomorrow" conference and £500 from IBMS for Biomedical Science Day.
She leads practical laboratory sessions for student training and has organized national events to promote diversity in biomedical science, including the upcoming conference at LSBU in March 2025. Her work extends to public engagement through guest lectures and STEM outreach, fostering the next generation of scientists.
