Ruth Gutiérrez Delgado

Ruth Gutiérrez Delgado is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Communication of the University of Navarra, where she teaches Scriptwriting and Epistemology of Communication. She is also a Visiting Professor at the Universidad de los Andes (Chile) and founder of the MYHE research group. Her work focuses on audiovisual poetics, mythmaking, heroism, and narrative theory, with a special interest in Western cinema, cultural identity, and the intersection of fiction and philosophy.

She holds a PhD in Public Communication from the University of Navarra (2004) with a thesis on Lo heroico en el cine de John Ford. Her research has explored topics such as the hero archetype, the ontology of representation, and the mythification processes in narratives across film and television. She has authored/co-authored books like Si Aristóteles levantara la cabeza (2023) and contributed chapters to collections on cultural studies and media theory.

Her academic career includes visiting positions at institutions like the University of Glasgow, University College Cork, and the Universität Bremen. She has led projects on cultural representation and has collaborated with media outlets like Pantalla 90 and Fila 7. She was Vice-Dean of Students at the Faculty of Communication for nine years and currently holds roles in research teams at CEU San Pablo University.

Her awards include the Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Scholarship (2024–2025) for teaching at the University of Hawaii. Her work bridges theoretical analysis with practical applications in scriptwriting and media education, emphasizing the epistemological value of fiction.
