Ruth Ford is an Associate Professor in Psychology at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), affiliated with the Faculty of Science and Engineering. With a PhD in Psychology from the University of New South Wales, she has held lecturing and tutoring positions at Cardiff University, Swansea University, Griffith University, and Macquarie University prior to joining ARU in 2013. Her research focuses on developmental psychology, particularly cognitive and memory development in children, autism, early intervention, and child psychology.

Ruth's research explores metamemory, involuntary autobiographical memories, semantic mind-pops, and self-reference effects in children. She investigates social functioning and mental health in autistic populations, develops early intervention strategies for low-income preschoolers, and examines cognitive processing in preterm infants. Her work spans experimental child psychology, autism screening biases, and executive function improvement tools for preschoolers.
Ruth has received notable recognition, including a Action Medical Research grant (2018-2022, £134,594) for her work on preterm infants and a partnership with the City of Doncaster Council to improve school readiness. She contributes to academic leadership as Associate Editor for the Journal of Experimental Child Psychology and serves on editorial boards for Cognitive Development and the British Journal of Developmental Psychology. Her advisory role with Skylark Learning highlights her commitment to translating research into practical tools like the Little Thinkers play set.
