Professor Ruth Endacott is an Honorary Professor at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Plymouth, and serves as Project Lead for the South West Clinical Schools and Director of the Plymouth University/Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital Clinical School. Her academic roles are complemented by extensive clinical and educational leadership in critical care nursing and patient safety.
Her research focuses on acute care nursing, particularly in intensive care units (ICUs), patient safety protocols, and end-of-life care. She has supervised over 25 doctoral students exploring topics such as patient deterioration management, family involvement in ICU care, and nursing competencies. Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and patient-centered approaches, with contributions to international guidelines like the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine's end-of-life care standards.
Recent studies highlight her expertise in patient escalation pathways, psychological impacts on healthcare workers during crises, and innovations in self-management strategies for chronic conditions.
