Ruth Coffey is a Lecturer in Law (spring term) and Senior Research Scholar in Law at Yale Law School. She practices as a criminal barrister at Red Lion Chambers in London and serves as a part-time Recorder (judge) in England and Wales' Crown Court since 2018.
- Education: M.Sc. from Birkbeck College, University of London (2008); M.A. and B.A. from the University of Cambridge, Christ's College (2000)
Her research focuses on criminal law theory, comparative criminal justice systems, sentencing practices, and evidence law. Notable work includes re-examining res gestae evidence in criminal trials.
Previously: Research Fellow and Lecturer at Harvard Law School (pre-2015), legal advisor to the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, and prosecutor for the UK Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs. Extensive trial experience in London courts as both prosecutor and defense counsel.
