Professor Ruth Bartlett is a registered mental health nurse and social scientist at the University of Southampton, specializing in dementia care and citizenship. She directs the University's Doctoral Training Centre in Dementia Care and leads the ARC Wessex Faculty. Her research focuses on inclusive citizenship, qualitative methodologies (e.g., walking interviews), and improving care practices for dementia patients. Key projects include studies on live-in care arrangements, GPS technologies for safer walking, and farm-based social care for dementia patients. She co-edits the journal Dementia: International Journal of Social Research and Practice and has authored influential books such as Life at Home for People with Dementia. Her work emphasizes participatory methodologies and collaboration with stakeholders globally, including Norway. She currently supervises PhD student Benjamin John Hartley.
Research projects include investigating social farms for dementia patients, religious practices in Nigeria, and hospital care quality through innovative methodologies. Her teaching and supervision focus on healthcare ethics, qualitative research design, and dementia care innovation.
