Dr. Esther Ruth Beck is a Senior Lecturer in Nursing at Ulster University, affiliated with the Faculty Of Life & Health Sciences and the Institute of Nursing and Health Research. She specializes in advance care planning, palliative care, and dementia care, with expertise in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research.
Education:
- BSc (Hons) in Nursing Sciences, Queen’s University Belfast (2005)
- PGDip in Specialist Nursing Practice in Palliative Care, Ulster University (2007)
- MSc in Specialist Nursing Practice in Dementia Care, Ulster University (2009)
- PhD in Nursing, Ulster University (2017)
Her research focuses on enhancing public awareness of palliative care, symptom management, and improving end-of-life care for dementia patients. Recent work explores international student experiences, cross-cultural advance care planning, and community-based palliative interventions.
Scientific Awards:
- Royal College of Nursing Nurse of the Year (Research Category), 2019
She leads projects such as the Palliative Care Research Forum Northern Ireland, Single Point of Access for Palliative Care Project, and research on end-of-life care models. Beck chairs the Irish Association of Palliative Care and the International Network for Doctoral Education in Nursing.
