Russell Melchert

Russell Melchert is Dean and Professor in the Division of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Pharmacy. He holds a BS (1990) and PhD (1994) from University of Oklahoma, and completed postdoctoral training at University of Texas at Austin.

His research examines pharmacologic and toxicologic effects on cardiac function in hypertension, remodeling, and aging. Key technical approaches include:

• In vitro cardiac myocyte models
• Biotelemetry systems for cardiovascular monitoring
• Fluorescent imaging for calcium measurements

Teaching recognition includes four Teacher of the Year awards at UMKC and UAMS. Recent publications focus on pharmacy education reform, cardiotoxicity assessment, and biomaterials science.
