Professor Mary Russell teaches Biological Sciences at Kent State University's Trumbull Campus. She holds a PhD in Microbiology from Ohio State University and investigates cardiac myocyte signaling mechanisms, focusing on synemin isoforms as AKAP scaffolds.
Research examines how synemin isoforms organize PKA signaling complexes in cardiac cells. Key findings include synemin-titin interactions at sarcomere M-bands and novel AKAPs like Chd8 in cardiac development. Work integrates molecular biology techniques with functional assays to map protein interactions and phosphorylation cascades.
Publications establish synemin as a multifunctional scaffold protein regulating cytoskeletal organization and calcium signaling. Recent work redefines its role beyond structural support to include signal transduction modulation.
