Dr Russell Lock serves as Head of the Department of Computer Science and holds the academic rank of Reader (equivalent to Associate Professor) in Information Modelling at Loughborough University, School of Science. He joined the university in 2010 after completing his PhD at Lancaster University and a research position at St Andrews University.

Russell's research focuses on socio-technical systems design, sensor data analysis, and machine learning applications across chemical decarbonisation, ballet movement analysis (pioneering Kinesemiotics), hazardous environment interfaces, and flood management. He leads the DigiTech Network promoting XR/AI training and is affiliated with the Centre for Information Management.
