
Russell Korobkin

Russell Korobkin is a Distinguished Professor of Law at the UCLA School of Law, where he specializes in contracts, negotiation, and health care law. He previously held positions at the University of Illinois College of Law and the University of Illinois Institute of Government and Public Affairs. Korobkin has also served as a visiting professor at Harvard Law School, the University of Texas School of Law, and institutions in Australia, Germany, and Israel. He earned his B.A. and J.D. from Stanford University, clerked for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, and practiced law at Covington & Burling before entering academia.
His research focuses on behavioral law and economics, negotiation strategies, and health policy. He has authored over 50 journal articles, book chapters, and two influential books: *STEM CELL CENTURY: LAW AND POLICY FOR A BREAKTHROUGH TECHNOLOGY* (Yale, 2007) and *NEGOTIATION THEORY AND STRATEGY* (Aspen, 2009). His work examines topics like default rules in contracts, moral hazard in healthcare, and the ethical implications of biomedical research.
Korobkin’s scholarship bridges legal theory and behavioral science, with particular attention to how psychological principles impact legal decision-making. He has contributed to debates on managed care regulation, stem cell policy, and the design of health insurance systems. His teaching emphasizes practical negotiation skills and the application of empirical research to legal practice.
