Russell Hewitson is an Associate Professor at the Northumbria Law School and a Fellow of the Cambridge Centre for Property Law. He teaches modules including Property Law and Practice, Solicitors Accounts, Drafting, Client Care, and Commercial Leases across undergraduate and postgraduate programs. His professional roles include serving on the Law Society Council for Commercial Property and as an academic member of the Law Society’s Conveyancing and Land Law Committee.
Dr. Hewitson holds an LLB (Hons) in Law and is a qualified solicitor since 1988. His research focuses on land law, land registration, landlord-tenant dynamics, co-ownership, and property law reform. He has advised government and the Law Commission on these topics. His publications include seminal works like Precedents for the Conveyancer, Practical Lease Precedents, and the Law Society’s Conveyancing Handbook.
His professional activities include chairing conferences, editing legal publications, and serving as a Trustee of the Netherton Park Trust. He has held external examiner roles at Hertfordshire University and the University of Law.
