Russell DiSilvestro is Professor and Chair of the Department of Philosophy at California State University Sacramento, where he has taught since 2006. He previously directed the university's Center for Practical and Professional Ethics (2012–2016) and supports the Ethics, Politics, and Law academic concentration. His educational background includes a BA in Philosophy from Indiana University, an MA from Biola University, and an MA and PhD from Bowling Green State University.
DiSilvestro's research explores interdisciplinary intersections of philosophy, ethics, law, and bioethics. Key areas include moral philosophy, political philosophy, human capacities, and applied ethics, as reflected in his book Human Capacities and Moral Status and recent scholarly articles.
His publications (2025) collectively address emerging bioethical challenges, including personal identity politics, genetic ethics, abortion rights, metaphysical debates on human-animal chimeras, and pharmaceutical ethics. These works demonstrate a consistent focus on integrating philosophical rigor with contemporary ethical dilemmas.
DiSilvestro actively contributes to academic leadership and family life, raising eight children with his wife Heather.
