Rupert Jones is an Honorary Associate Professor at the Peninsula Medical School (University of Plymouth) and currently holds the position of Professor of Health Research at Plymouth Marjon University. His work bridges clinical practice and global health research, with a focus on chronic respiratory diseases and dementia. He brings experience as a retired GP and respiratory specialist, contributing to national and international initiatives.
Research interests include COPD, severe asthma, pulmonary rehabilitation, digital health education, and interdisciplinary collaborations between arts and medicine. He has developed tools like the Lung Information Needs Questionnaire and the DOSE Index for COPD severity assessment, and leads global projects funded by Horizon 2020, MRC/Wellcome Trust, and DFID.
Teaching includes modules on global health and remote health care, alongside external clinical and research education roles. His work spans collaborations across 28 countries, impacting over 36,000 primary care clinicians through initiatives like the Global emPOWER program.
Rupert has authored over 120 peer-reviewed papers and several books, contributing to both academic and policy spheres. His efforts align with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in advancing health equity globally.
