Debasish Kar is a Clinical Lecturer at the Peninsula Medical School (Faculty of Health), University of Plymouth. His career spans clinical practice in primary and secondary care, medical education, and research. He holds an MBBS from Bangladesh (1991), an MSc in Diabetes (University of Leicester), and an MD (University of Sheffield). He has held roles as a Senior Clinical Researcher at the University of Oxford (2021–2023) and a Primary Care Fellow at the University of Leicester (2016–2018).
His research focuses on gastroenterology, diabetes, neurology, and healthcare equity. Notable contributions include pioneering capsule endoscopy in primary care (presented at BSG 2005) and leading projects to empower minority patients in self-management. He has extensive clinical experience in hospital medicine, GP training, and NHS leadership roles, including serving as the CCG lead for respiratory and neurology services.
Dr. Kar has taught medical students and GP trainees for over 22 years, mentoring over 20 trainees and contributing to RCGP education initiatives. His work aligns with UN SDGs related to health equity and sustainable healthcare systems.
