Rumman Chowdhury

Dr. Rumman Chowdhury is a prominent data scientist and social scientist specializing in AI ethics. She currently holds roles as a Responsible AI Fellow at Harvard University’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society, a Research Affiliate at the Minderoo Center for Democracy and Technology at Cambridge University, and a Visiting Researcher at NYU Tandon School of Engineering. She also serves as the U.S. Science Envoy for Artificial Intelligence. Previously, she led the ML Ethics, Transparency, and Accountability (META) team at Twitter and was Global Lead for Responsible AI at Accenture Applied Intelligence.

Dr. Chowdhury holds two undergraduate degrees from MIT, a Master’s in Quantitative Methods of the Social Sciences from Columbia University, and a Doctorate in Political Science from the University of California, San Diego.

Her research focuses on applied algorithmic ethics, ensuring ethical, explainable, and transparent AI systems. She explores topics such as algorithmic fairness, mitigation of bias in AI, and global AI policy frameworks.
