Rubens Ghenov is an Associate Professor in the Department of Painting and Drawing at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His work merges painting, storytelling, and sound to explore the interplay between fact, memory, and fiction, often reflecting on his immigrant experience. He holds an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design (2010).

His research interests include abstract art, self-portraiture, and multimedia narratives. Notable works such as Raag Mariposa (2017) and Tokonoma For Absalom, Celan & Clarice (2018) exemplify his exploration of visual and conceptual boundaries. Ghenov’s art has been exhibited nationally at venues like Morgan Lehman Gallery (NY) and the Philadelphia Museum of Art (PA), and he has been featured in Art in America, Bomb Magazine, and The Village Voice.
He has co-curated exhibitions, including the 72nd Annual Juried Exhibition at the Woodmere Art Museum (2013). His artistic practice integrates interdisciplinary elements, bridging personal narrative with broader socio-cultural themes.
