Ruben van Wendel de Joode serves as a Lecturer at AOG School of Management, formally affiliated with the University of Groningen (RUG). Since March 2023, he has been the core instructor for the 'Collaborating on Complex Challenges' program (formerly 'Strategic Program Management'), taking over from the retired Henri Verploegh. With over 35 years of experience as a trainer since 1988, he specializes in cross-organizational collaboration and complex societal problem-solving.
His research focuses on the dual dimensions of collaboration: the 'hard side' involving practical aspects like shared goals and formal agreements, and the 'soft side' encompassing relationships and group dynamics. He addresses contemporary crises including nitrogen issues, segregation, refugee challenges, and energy transition through the lens of collaborative governance. His work bridges theoretical perspectives with practical implementation in public administration.
Van Wendel de Joode's publications reveal a consistent focus on how organizations can effectively tackle complex societal challenges through structured collaboration. His approach emphasizes developing participants' ability to understand complexity from multiple perspectives while maintaining their own professional identity within collaborative frameworks.
As an educator, he emphasizes practical application through learning-by-doing approaches. His teaching philosophy centers on challenging and inspiring participants to develop their collaborative repertoire, helping them navigate the tension between organizational interests and personal values in cross-organizational settings.
