Dr. Marco de Witte is a core lecturer in Change Management at AOG School of Management, affiliated with the University of Groningen. With a career spanning since 1988, he brings decades of practical experience to his faculty-transcending approach that emphasizes learning and reflection in a practical, personal context.
His research focuses on the emotional and human dimensions of organizational change, particularly exploring paradoxical tensions that arise during transformation processes. De Witte challenges conventional wisdom with his three counterintuitive principles: the success of change depends on the process rather than the idea; people act based on feelings rather than thoughts; and action precedes new thinking. His motto encapsulates this approach: "It is easier to act yourself in new ways of thinking than think yourself into new ways of action."
Recent publications reveal a clear evolution in his work from technical change management toward what he terms 'the art of changing.' His articles increasingly examine vulnerability in leadership, the lasting impacts of the coronavirus crisis on organizational change, and how to navigate paradoxical tensions between efficiency and human-centered approaches. The 60th edition of AOG's Change Management program marks a significant milestone in his ongoing contribution to the field.
De Witte co-edited the foundational text "Essenties van Verandermanagement" and collaborates with Maaike Arends and Michiel Nannen on the "Persoonlijk Leiderschap in Transities" program, which guides experienced leaders through major transitions by encouraging deep self-reflection on both strengths and shadow sides. His work bridges academic theory and practical application, making him a respected voice in Dutch organizational development circles.
