Rozalyn Simon is an Associate Professor at Linköping University's Department of Health, Medicine and Caring Sciences and Director of the interdisciplinary Forum Scientium graduate research school. She holds a PhD in Chemistry from Linköping University (2014), an MSc from UC Santa Cruz (2007), and a BSc from the University of Georgia (2001). Her career includes postdoctoral research at the Center for Medical Image Science and Visualization (CMIV) and industry experience as Clinical Science Lead at AMRA Medical AB.
Her research investigates neurobiological mechanisms in conditions like Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and chronic fatigue, with emphasis on the brain-gut-microbiome axis. She employs multimodal neuroimaging (fMRI-EEG) and mathematical modeling to study brain function during meditation, pain, and sleep. Her recent work explores gut bacteria interactions with neural navigation systems and adipose tissue effects on brain aging.
Simon's publications reveal consistent themes: neuroimaging biomarker discovery, gut-brain communication pathways, and metabolic influences on cognition. Methodological contributions include standardized fMRI frameworks for meditation research and novel visualization tools for brain cohort studies.
She leads the Functional Brain Imaging group at CMIV, focusing on translational applications. As Forum Scientium Director, she fosters cross-disciplinary collaboration among graduate students in medicine, engineering, and natural sciences. Her work integrates basic science with clinical insights, particularly in gastroenterology and neurodegenerative disorders.
