Roxana Barbulescu is an Associate Professor in the School of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Leeds. Her research focuses on migration, citizenship, race, and food studies, emphasizing qualitative methods and policy engagement. She holds a PhD from the European University Institute (2013) and has held research positions at institutions including the University of Southampton, College of Europe, and University of Montreal.
Education: PhD in Social and Political Sciences (European University Institute, 2013), MRes (same institution), MA Intercultural Humanities (Jacobs University Bremen), BA Sociology and Philosophy (University of Craiova, Romania).
Her work examines migrant integration strategies across Europe, exploring how rights and duties interact with social inequality. Key publications include Migrant Integration in Changing Europe (2019) and co-edited volumes on citizenship and integration. Recent projects include ESRC-funded studies on seasonal agricultural workers and food security, and Brexit's impact on Northern England communities.
Awards: 2022 Ramon y Cajal Award (Spain). Professional roles include editorial boards of Racial and Ethnic Studies and Comparative Migration Studies, and service on the ESRC Centre for Population Change and IMISCOE committees.
