Stefania Marino

Stefania Marino is a Senior Lecturer in Employment Studies at the Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS), University of Manchester. She previously held roles at the University of Milan as a Research Associate, the University of Bologna as a Teaching Fellow, and visited the University of Amsterdam during her doctoral studies. Her research focuses on labour sociology, international migration, and industrial relations with an emphasis on comparative and international perspectives.

Key affiliations include co-leadership of the IILME Standing Committee within IMISCOE and membership in the ESRC Peer Review College and the Higher Education Academy. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly through the Work and Equalities Institute.

Research interests center on trade union strategies for migrant and precarious workers, labour market regulation, and social inclusion. Notable projects include an ESRC-funded fellowship (2012–2015) examining union strategies in the UK, Italy, Netherlands, and Spain. Recent work explores foundational economies, migrant work post-pandemic, and platform freelancing dynamics.

Publications span trade unions' roles in fragmented labour markets, migrant worker inclusion challenges, and state policies. Awards include the ESRC Future Research Leader Fellowship and Higher Education Academy Fellowship.

Advisory roles include supervising doctoral work and contributing to Leverhulme, EC, and ESRC-funded projects. She collaborates with institutions like the European Work and Employment Research Centre (EWERC) and Fairness at Work Research Centre (FairWRC).
