Ross Wilson is the Bigelow Teacher in Residence in Political Science at Carleton College. A veteran U.S. diplomat with four decades of service, he served as Ambassador to Azerbaijan (2000–2003) and Turkey (2005–2008), and as Chargé d’Affaires in Kabul, Afghanistan (2020), Turkey (2014), and Georgia (2018–2019). He held senior roles in the State Department, including deputy executive secretary and chief of staff to Deputy Secretary Robert Zoellick, and led the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center (2010–2014).

Research Interests
Wilson’s work focuses on international affairs, particularly the political, economic, and energy dynamics of Turkey, the former Soviet states, and regional integration. His expertise spans diplomatic studies, foreign policy analysis, and public-private collaboration in global governance.

Advisory Roles & Affiliations
Prior to Carleton, Wilson chaired the Board of Directors for Global Minnesota, the Institute of Turkish Studies’ Board of Governors, and served on advisory councils for the Eurasia Foundation and American Voices. He remains a distinguished senior fellow (on leave) at the Atlantic Council.
Personal
He resides in western Wisconsin with his spouse, Margo Squire, a retired U.S. Foreign Service officer.
