Ross Wilson is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Molecular Therapeutics at the University of California, Berkeley, and a core member of the Innovative Genomics Institute. His research focuses on engineering CRISPR-based genome editing systems for targeted delivery to specific tissues and cell types, with an emphasis on overcoming delivery barriers to enable affordable, accessible therapies. His lab develops methods for liver-, brain-, and immune cell-targeted delivery, including innovations like PERC (Peptide-mediated RNP Delivery) for T cells and hematopoietic stem cells.
Key projects include liver-targeted Cas9 delivery using hepatocyte-specific receptors, in vivo editing of T cells via receptor-mediated endocytosis, and optimizing CRISPR enzymes for brain/lung accessibility. Wilson’s work addresses global healthcare disparities by seeking cost-effective genetic medicine solutions through projects like the NIH Somatic Cell Genome Editing Program.
Publications highlight advancements in CRISPR delivery mechanisms, including traceless linkers for brain editing, and analyses of therapeutic economics. Collaborations span academic and industry partners, with an eye toward translating lab innovations into clinical applications.
