Ross Sundberg, PhD, is a Faculty Lecturer at the McGill Writing Centre since 2016. His roles include coordinating ESL-related courses such as WCOM 295 (Academic Skills), WCOM 206 (Communication in Engineering), and pronunciation-focused courses. He specializes in teaching ESL students, English pronunciation, and communication skills for engineers at both undergraduate and graduate levels. His teaching philosophy emphasizes bridging formal and informal learning environments to enhance practical application of knowledge.
Dr. Sundberg holds a PhD in Education from Concordia University, specializing in Applied Linguistics and Educational Technology. His research focuses on innovative language learning methods, including the development of apps like Bande à Part for French learners and open-source tools for minority languages. He has also contributed to instructional design at Concordia and UQAM, designing French language courses and placement systems for ESL students.
His research interests span applied linguistics, educational technology, and the role of music in language acquisition. He actively participates in academic groups such as the Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance (CSLP) and the Second Language Learning, Teaching, and Use Research Group. His publications explore topics like lexical stress in L2 German, music-based language learning, and interactive ebook development for minority languages.
Ross advises on the Communication in Engineering Award Committee and has developed courses integrating technology and reflective teaching practices. His work emphasizes practical applications of theory in both classroom and non-formal settings.
