Dr. Ross L. Watts is the R. Stanton Avery Professor of Management, Emeritus at MIT Sloan School of Management. A pioneer in positive accounting theory, his research examines accounting's role in contracting, governance, and financial reporting standards.
Research focuses on:
- Accounting conservatism and standard setting
- Corporate governance mechanisms
- Auditing practices and regulation
He co-authored the influential book Positive Accounting Theory and founded the Journal of Accounting & Economics. Awards include the Outstanding Accounting Educator Award and induction into the Australian Accounting Hall of Fame.
Dr. Watts advises regulatory bodies on financial reporting standards and their economic impacts.
