Ross Barnett serves as a Tutor in the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences at the University of Stirling. He is actively engaged in PhD research focused on acoustic monitoring methodologies for assessing biodiversity and ecological function in restored woodland ecosystems.
His research program investigates several critical dimensions of ecological restoration through sound-based analysis:
- Application of ecoacoustics for evaluating biodiversity in restored landscapes
- Development of methodological best practices for ecoacoustic monitoring protocols
- Analysis of time-lags in ecological restoration processes
- Examination of soundscape implications for species welfare and fitness metrics
Barnett's doctoral work operates within the framework of the Woodland Creation and Ecological Networks (WrEN) project alongside complementary woodland restoration initiatives. His interdisciplinary approach bridges acoustic technology with ecological assessment, offering innovative methodologies for measuring restoration success beyond traditional visual surveys.
