Roslynn McCann is a Professor and Sustainable Communities Extension Specialist in the Environment and Society Department at Utah State University (USU), where she leads USU Extension Sustainability. She is based at the Moab Campus and is actively involved in tribal climate resilience and national Extension climate change programming. Her role integrates teaching, research, and outreach with a strong emphasis on community engagement and environmental sustainability.

Roslynn's research centers on applying behavioral theory to understand and influence environmental behavior through communication and social marketing. Her extension work focuses on air quality, climate change, water and land conservation, landfill issues, sustainable food systems, and renewable energy. She is particularly interested in permaculture design as a climate adaptation framework, Indigenous climate resilience, and expanding climate change programming through the Cooperative Extension system. Her teaching includes ENVS 4700: Communicating Sustainability and past instruction in ENVS 5570: Sustainable Living, both community-engaged learning courses that empower students to drive environmental change.
Her recent publications reflect a strong trend toward community-based climate action, Indigenous knowledge integration, and evaluating public perceptions of climate change. She has contributed to research on municipal renewable energy adoption, Extension outreach effectiveness, and the role of higher education in climate action. Roslynn has mentored numerous graduate students in the Environment and Society program, including Bryn Watkins, David Francis, Bayli Hanson, and others, guiding their research in sustainability and community engagement. She has led or contributed to multiple extension programs and grants, particularly those focused on climate resilience, farmers market development, and sustainability education. Her work with the Cooperative Extension System includes national-level climate action planning and evaluation of extreme weather programming.
She leads USU Extension Sustainability, a program that conducts outreach across Utah on critical environmental issues. She also collaborates with the Western Rural Development Center and has developed curriculum for 4-H programs and market managers. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges academia, tribal communities, local governments, and non-profits to create lasting environmental and social change.
