Dr Rosie Wyles is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Durham University's Department of Classics and Ancient History, affiliated with a UKRI-funded project examining Aristotle's writing. Previously, she held academic roles at institutions including Oxford, Nottingham, and King's College London, teaching Greek literature, ancient history, and reception studies. She has supervised and examined doctorates, serving as an external examiner for the University of Bristol (2019–2021) and currently as an external assessor for the Open University.
Her research focuses on the cultural history of antiquity, particularly drama's role in civic identity and performance. Key publications include Costume in Greek Tragedy (2011) and Theatre Props and Civic Identity in Athens (2020). She co-edited volumes on ancient pantomime, the Pronomos vase, and female classical scholars. Current work explores Aristotle's language of emotion and cognition.
Rosie actively engages in public outreach, contributing to TV/radio programs and delivering school talks on Classics. She emphasizes broadening access to the discipline through interdisciplinary and pedagogical initiatives.
