Dr Rosemary Moore is a Lecturer in the Department of History of Art at University College London (UCL), Faculty of Social and Historical Sciences. She completed her PhD at UCL in 2016 and teaches core undergraduate courses including the dissertation module and work placement program Art/Work/Space.
Her educational background:
- PhD in History of Art, University College London, 2016
Dr Moore's research centers on early modern visual and material culture, specializing in anatomical fugitive prints, barber-surgeon manuscript paintings, and the entanglement of art with medical knowledge production. She investigates how layered paper flaps in prints transformed viewers into active anatomical participants, and how technologies like printmaking, lenses, and navigational instruments reshaped bodily perception. Her work bridges art history, history of science, and social histories of medicine.
Recent publications explore the spectacle of anatomical representation and maternal imagination in early modern contexts, revealing dynamic relationships between image, body, and cultural identity through interactive visual forms.
As an educator, Dr Moore oversees final-year dissertations and the Art/Work/Space placement module connecting students with museums and heritage institutions. She previously taught Renaissance art modules at the University of Sussex as a Teaching Fellow.
