Rosemary Moore is an Associate Professor of Instruction in Classics and History at the University of Iowa, where she has been a faculty member since 2003. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and an A.B. from Harvard College. Her research focuses on the Roman military environment during the late Republic and early Empire, including elite Roman women’s roles (e.g., Fulvia and Octavia) and psychological dynamics of ancient military leadership applied to modern studies. She has contributed chapters to The Oxford Handbook of Classical Warfare and authored leadership case studies for Sage Business Cases.
Moore teaches courses on ancient civilizations, Greek language, and Mediterranean history, emphasizing experiential learning and inclusive education through Universal Design. She actively collaborates with autism organizations and serves on the advisory board for the NeuroPREP program, which trains faculty to support neurodiverse students. Her pedagogical work also explores integrating computer games and digital tools into classroom instruction.
Her scholarly contributions include encyclopedia articles and research on ancient sports, technology, and food in the Mediterranean. She balances her academic rigor with a commitment to accessibility and innovative teaching methods.
