Dominic Machado is an Associate Professor in the Department of Classics at the College of the Holy Cross. He holds a PhD in Ancient History from Brown University (2017) and an A.B. in Classics and Economics from Dartmouth College (2009). His research focuses on collective action and dissent in Roman History, particularly within military communities of the Middle Republic. He co-directs the Lingua Latina Legenda (L3) project, funded by Holy Cross' Scholarship in Action Grant, which rethinks Latin pedagogy to address power structures in classical education.
Key professional activities include serving on the Society for Classical Studies' Diversity and Inclusion Committee, the Mountaintop Coalition steering committee, and the Association of Ancient Historians' Diversity Working Group. His recent work explores how Classics intersects with modern issues of diversity, postcolonial theory, and media representation.
His scholarship spans Roman military sociology, ancient rhetoric, and digital humanities, with notable contributions to understanding non-elite agency and the reception of antiquity in video games. Current projects include a monograph on Roman military communities' impact on Mediterranean systems.
