Rosemarie Herbert is a Senior Teaching Fellow at the Faculty of Science, Monash University, where she actively contributes to science education and student employability. She is currently accepting PhD students in the field of Science Education Research, with a focus on work-integrated learning and STEM career readiness.
Her research interests are centered on improving STEM student outcomes through innovative educational practices. Key areas include Work-Integrated Learning (WIL), asymmetrical curriculum design, use of digital platforms like Slack to build learning communities, and addressing barriers to diversity and inclusion in WIL. She also investigates the impact of the global pandemic and AI on student employability, mapping employer expectations in Australian science job markets and trends in post-COVID fieldwork opportunities.
The recent publications reflect a strong shift toward career development and educational innovation in STEM, particularly through practical guides for students. These works emphasize resume writing, interview preparation, and professional skill-building, indicating a focus on applied educational outputs that directly benefit students. Earlier works delve into molecular biology and vector-borne disease research, showing a multidisciplinary background.
Her scientific recognition includes three major educational awards in 2024: the Allan Christie ASCILITE Innovation Award, the ASCILITE Innovation Award (General Category), and the QS Reimagine Education Awards Nurturing and Employability Silver Finalist, all highlighting her team-based contributions to educational innovation.
- Supervision: Currently accepting PhD students in Science Education Research.
- Grants: Principal Chief Investigator on two research projects: (1) 'Accessibility in science internships' (2025), and (2) 'Human-centred design to improve WIL for neurodivergent individuals' (2023–2024).
Her work is supported by active research projects focused on inclusive WIL practices, particularly for disabled and neurodiverse students, indicating strong engagement with equity-driven educational design and human-centred research methodologies.
