Dr. Rose Capdevila is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at The Open University. Her research focuses on discursive boundaries around political and gender identities, as well as the role and politics of methodology in psychology. She critically examines how identity categories are constructed and transgressed, particularly through the lens of feminist and critical perspectives.
Her work integrates qualitative methodologies like Q methodology to explore themes such as sexual harassment, motherhood discourses, and gender dynamics in digital spaces. Key research areas include the intersection of technology and gender-based violence, the relationship between activism and academia, and the curation of identity in social media contexts.
In 2018, she co-authored influential work on 'sharenting'—the practice of mothers sharing child-related content online—and has contributed to policy discussions on technology-facilitated gender violence. She has also published in leading journals like Feminism & Psychology and edited volumes such as the Palgrave Handbook of Power, Gender, and Psychology.
Her academic career reflects a commitment to methodological innovation and feminist scholarship, bridging theoretical rigor with real-world social issues. Recent projects include analyses of UK feminist psychologists navigating activist-academic boundaries and global frameworks for addressing technology-mediated violence against women.
