Johanna Lauri is an Associate Professor at the Umeå Centre for Gender Studies (UCGS) at Umeå University. Her work focuses on gender studies, feminist theory, and social innovation, with a particular emphasis on issues such as gender-based violence, LGBTQ+ rights, and cultural critiques of societal norms.
Her research explores intersections between technology, safety, and gender equality (e.g., apps targeting gender-based violence), financial feminism, and the commodification of feminist narratives. She has also examined institutional responses to sexual harassment, neo-Nazi threats against LGBTQ+ activists, and the discursive struggles around women’s shelters.
Key themes in her publications include the paradoxes of ethical enjoyment, business feminism, and the role of separatism in safety movements. Her work bridges academic inquiry with real-world applications, advocating for critical perspectives on social innovation and policy frameworks.
