Rosario Mato Labajos serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Life Sciences at NOVA University Lisbon's Faculty of Science and Technology, maintaining her office in the Departmental Building (2nd Floor, Office 201) with contact extension 11103 and email r.labajos@fct.unl.pt.
Her research centers on microbiology with specialization in microbial characterization, antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, molecular epidemiology, and molecular genetics of Gram-positive pathogens including Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Enterococcus species. Current investigations focus on microbial evolution of non-pneumoniae Streptococcus, transmission dynamics of multi-drug resistant enterococcal clones across One Health sectors, and bacterial culture collection preservation technologies.
Analysis of her publication record (2000-2021) reveals sustained contributions to antimicrobial resistance research through molecular epidemiological studies of Gram-positive pathogens. Her work demonstrates consistent patterns of international collaboration in multicenter projects, examination of resistance evolution in pediatric populations, and investigation of vaccine impacts on bacterial carriage and resistance dynamics across hospital and community settings.
