Rosana Barragan is an Associate Professor of Dance and Director of the MFA in Dance: Creative Practice at Saint Mary’s College of California, a tenure-track faculty member in the School of Liberal Arts. She holds an MA in Dance Studies from Laban Centre/City University (London) and a BA in Communication/Social Studies from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Colombia).
Her research focuses on somatic movement integration in dance education, particularly in children’s curricula and liberal arts contexts. She explores phenomenology’s intersection with somatics, biodiversity from somatic perspectives, and somatic approaches to releasing cultural/social pain. She teaches courses like Choreography for Graduate Program, Ballet for Undergraduates, and Seminar in Phenomenology.
Rosana is a certified Body Mind Dancing teacher and registered Dynamic Embodiment Somatic Movement Educator/Therapist (ISMETA). She owns a San Francisco-based dance school for children and serves as a peer reviewer for Journal of Dance and Somatic Practices, Currents, and Javeriana University Arts Journal. She also holds roles in ISMETA’s research committee, Moving On Center’s Board, and part-time faculty in Dynamic Embodiment training.
