Rory Hyde is an Associate Professor in Architecture (Curatorial Design and Practice) at the University of Melbourne’s Melbourne School of Design. He also served as Curator of Contemporary Architecture and Urbanism at the Victoria and Albert Museum (2013–2020) and Design Advocate for the Mayor of London. His work bridges architecture, curation, and public engagement, focusing on design’s role in societal challenges.
Education: PhD in Architecture from RMIT University (focused on technology’s impact on small practices) and architecture studies at the same institution. He has practiced globally with firms like ARM, BKK, and MVRDV.
Research interests include redefining architectural practice for the public good, curatorial innovation, and the ethical dimensions of design. Notable projects include co-curating the V&A’s The Future Starts Here (2018) and All of This Belongs to You (2015), as well as the Rapid Response Collecting initiative. His writing appears in Harvard Design Magazine, The Guardian, and Domus.
