Dr Rory Hanna is a historian specializing in twentieth-century Europe, currently serving as a Research Associate at the University of Sheffield's School of History, Philosophy and Digital Humanities. His work focuses on socio-economic rights, labor history, and transnational activism, particularly in post-war Germany and Britain.

Hanna's research explores how non-state actors influence political discourses, with a focus on West German student protests (1949–1965) and the evolution of work-related rights in Britain, Germany, and East Africa since the late 19th century. His current AHRC-funded project, 'Global Socio-Economic Rights, Local Contexts', analyzes welfare provisions and labor policies across capitalist and socialist regimes.
His publications highlight intersections of protest, colonial history, and cross-cultural collaborations. Recent works include analyses of campus activism, archival approaches to German colonialism, and comparative studies of socio-economic rights.
