Crath's research interrogates how systems of power—including colonization, racialized capitalism, and neoliberal governance—shape knowledge production about marginalized communities. His work employs interdisciplinary, community-driven approaches and innovative arts-based methodologies to explore:
- Risk governance
- Queer sexualities and health
- Biopolitics of health technologies
Recent publications analyze topics such as the pharmaco-pornographic imagination in HIV prevention, Black trans survivance during the pandemic, and aesthetic resistance in community murals. Crath was awarded tenure at Smith College in 2022. His collaborative work appears in journals like Health Risk & Society, Sexualities, and Urban Studies.
