Ronen Sumagin

Ronen Sumagin, PhD is an Associate Professor at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, specializing in Experimental Pathology. His research focuses on the role of innate immune cells (neutrophils and macrophages) in gastrointestinal inflammation, epithelial injury, and colorectal cancer progression.

Research Interests:
Dr. Sumagin's lab investigates mechanisms of leukocyte recruitment to mucosal tissues, their effects on endothelial/epithelial function, host-pathogen interactions, immune cell cross-talk, and the innate immune contribution to cancer. His work integrates intravital imaging, animal models, and molecular approaches to uncover risk factors for tumor formation.

Recent Publications:
His studies highlight neutrophils' dual roles in inflammation and cancer, ICAM-1 as a regulator of immune cell interactions, and genomic instability driven by immune activity. Collaborative works span organotypic cultures, gut microbiota, and therapeutic resistance in sarcomas.
