Ronan Mainprize is a PhD Candidate and Associate Tutor at the University of Warwick's Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS). His research focuses on intelligence, US foreign policy, and international security, particularly examining the CIA's role during Lyndon B. Johnson's presidency. He holds a BA in Politics and International Relations, an MSc in International Security from Warwick (2019), and is completing a PhD supported by a PAIS scholarship.
Research interests include Cold War dynamics, intelligence cycle performance, and presidential decision-making. His thesis analyzes CIA performance during Johnson's administration through case studies of the Dominican Intervention (1965), Six Day War (1967), and Vietnam War (1963-1968). His publications blend historical analysis with contemporary policy insights, appearing in venues like Journal of Intelligence History and Intelligence and National Security.
Teaching responsibilities include the Vigilant State: Understanding Secret Intelligence and Introduction to Politics modules. He is pursuing a Postgraduate Award in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (PGA TLHE) and holds an Advance Higher Education Fellowship (FHEA).
